Your brain just woke up from a long rest — it’s calm, focused, and full of energy. In this state, you can finish 3–4 hours of work in just one hour or finally read that book, if you don’t start scrolling. (Phone = tablet, laptop, smart TV)
So, let’s make the most of your morning. Here are 4 small actions for an offline start to your day:
1. Keep your phone out of reach at night.
Before sleeping, place your phone in a bag, cupboard, or another room. It should be out of sight when you wake up.
2. Go Analogue.
Use an alarm clock instead of your phone. Don’t wear your smartwatch to bed and keep it out of sight too. Avoid playing music or chants, if you really want morning music, get a physical radio. The idea is to remove all digital triggers that lead you online.
3. Start your day with self-care.
Splash your face with cold water, it instantly wakes you up. Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and observe each step. Go to washroom without phone. Spend the first 60 minutes of your morning completely offline — journal, read, stretch, or just sit quietly with yourself.
4. Do deep work.
Every day, there’s always some task or decision that needs deep thinking. This is your golden hour to do it. Write your to-dos — big or small — in a notebook. Draft that report or plan using pen and paper instead of a laptop to avoid distractions. You can even plan your meals or read a printed research paper.
