Disable YouTube App on Android
Disabling YouTube stops it from running, updating, or appearing in your app list.
- Long press the YouTube app.
- Tap Disable.
- You’ll see a warning — confirm it.
- This removes it from your home screen, stops it from running in the background, and hides it from the app drawer.
On iOS, YouTube doesn’t come pre-installed, so you can simply delete the app.
Turn Off Watch History in Your YouTube Account
YouTube uses your watch history to personalize Shorts and video recommendations. Turning it off removes feed and reels, so you’ll only see what you search for.
On Phone:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap History and Privacy.
- Click Manage all activity.
- Turn Off Watch History.
- Clear your Watch History (this may take a few minutes).
On Desktop:
- Click History (in the left sidebar).
- Select Pause Watch History.
- Clear your Watch History.
Clean Your Subscriptions and Watchlist
Try to keep your subscriptions below 10. Not everyone posts regularly, and not all content is useful.
This helps ensure you only watch what truly adds value and reduces mindless scrolling.
Follow these steps for at least a week and share your experience (and any challenges you faced) in the comments!
